I would like to thank the committee and exhibitors for making the very special Deerhound Club Weekend
memorable again , not only as a fellow member but this year being honoured with my invitation to judge at
the prestigious Annual Open Show with a great entry of 82 hounds. We were blessed with beautiful weather
and for me many excellent hounds to assess, lovely relaxed atmosphere and always very sporting exhibitors.
Puppy Dog : 4 [ 1 abs]
1st: Cumberland & Constantine`s KALEGINY SHOGUN, Well grown light grey 11 month old. Very
handsome , upstanding youngster with masculine head and dark eye. Looked the winner standing with good
outline and has a lot of style. Best settled on the move with great depth and length, well muscled. Best
Puppy Dog but was out-matured in the challenge for BPIS but shows great promise for the future.
2nd: Rose`s HYNDSIGHT BETTER BELIEVE IT ,, Also 11 months, darker grey, slightly lighter build overall
than winner and less mature. Very handsome head and dark eye, at first glance was my winner but just
needs to body up. Stands well with nice flowing lines but still needs to settle in front on the move, excellent
hind movement.
3rd: Merrick`s ROPHINE LOMOND.
Junior Dog: 3
1st: Peach`s KILBOURNE JAGGER. Nearly 13 months, I was really taken with this lovely youngster.
Mature for age he is a top quality hound, well balanced throughout with super head and eye, excellent overall
conformation ,correct topline and well bodied with sound , easy and elegant movement. Pleased to award
him Best Dog and BOS in show, beaten in the challenge by the two older and more mature bitches but I will
watch his future with interest.
2nd: Moffat`s KALEGINY CALEDONIAN , 11 month lighter grey, another nice puppy who was unfortunately
in the wrong class today and lacked the maturity and finish of above. Preferred head and ears of winner, he
has a nice outline and good sidemovement, just not as settled yet coming and going. Outmoved in the
challenge for Best Puppy Dog by his litter brother, well handled and presented.
3rd: Beasley`s FLAXSIDE DRUID.
Yearling Dog : 2
Not the best class for movement
1st: Greenhalgh`s KILBOURNE ABLAZE AT LEKSMOOR, 22 months , lovely head with dark eye, he has
good length of body and a better topline than his classmate, would like more front angulation but good length
from hip to hock. When he eventually settled his side movement was good but front and rear was very
wobbly coming and going. I feel he needs more ringcraft practise as still a very gangly youngster.
2nd: Germain`s AGHNADARRAGH NOLAN, 19 months, just not my style of hound, would prefer more
elegant head and ear set, has a lot of length but lacks topline, well bodied with good depth, front and hind
movement adequate. Unfortunately his ringed tail spoilt the overall picture.
Special Beginners Dog : 1
1st: Taylor`s STABLEVIEW WILLOW, 4 years old mature hound , well balanced head and dark eye. Good
length of neck into shoulders, good length and depth of brisket, nice topline, a little more hind angulation
than front angulation, not a big male but has a lot of style and moved well. Unfortunately stood alone today.
Post Graduate Dog : 2
1st: Help`s BEARDSWOOD EXCALIBUR, 2 1/4 years old, upstanding male with lovely masculine but
elegant head and dark eye. Looks well standing over plenty of ground with correct topline. Good front and
hind co-ordination with lovely feet, deep brisket and well ribbed back. Moved soundly but still immature and
needs to body-up, in fine muscular condition. Res Best Dog.
2nd: Taylor`s STABLEVIEW WILLOW,
Limit Dog: 6
Lovely quality class.
1st: Sandell`s and Lovell`s PACKWAY BLUE MOON, 2 years dark grey, very handsome well grown male
who I have admired and judged before, maturing into a fine hound and I like his overall conformation, type
and style.. Great depth, length and well bodied. Good feet. Kept topline well on the move, for me he won this
class with ease amongst strong competition but just did not make the best of himself in the challenge for
Best male. I am sure he has a great future . Well handled and presented.
2nd: Finnett & Heathcote`s HYNDSIGHT STEPPENWOLF, Slightly older 2 1/4 years old, lovely head with nice furnishings, very nice hound to go over with excellent neck and shoulder placement, good depth and
width in front with correct ribbing and nicely arched loin. Good sweep from hip to hock and in fine muscular
condition. Super side movement, just not as settled on the rear as above today. Another hound who fell foul
of the slightly rough ring surface.
3rd: Thom`s FLAXSIDE A WILL TO LIVE.
Open Dog : 7
1st: Finnett & Heathcote`s CH. HYNDSIGHT TALK ON THE STREET, 4 years mature hound who has
excellent type and overall balance. I like his overall conformation, well bodied with good length and correct
topline and outline on the move. Very similar in style and type to his kennel mate who was 2nd in the class
above. Just preferred the Junior Dog`s elegance and final movement in the challenge for Best Dog.
2nd: Taylor`s CH. ORMANSTAR EZRA, 2 1/2 years dark grey, another quality hound who is less mature
than above, taller upstanding male who has a lot of presence and style. Lovely head and dark eye ,really
looks the part standing and moves soundly throughout, great front and hind co-ordination. Two excellent
males who are difficult to seperate, just preferred the topline on the move of winner today.
3rd: Cumming`s CLAONAIGLEN ARTNEY
Veteran Dog :4 [2 abs]
1st: Faircoth, Faircloth & Help`s CH. BEARDSWOOD UTHER, 7 1/2 years old, grand male who is in fine
form. Very sound hound who has a lot to like about him, masculine elegant head, well made throughout and
in excellent muscular condition and presentation. Looked good standing and moving, still has a lot of
charisma for his age, as always his excellent handler got the best out of him.
2nd: Cumming`s KALEGINY PLAID TAF
8 years lighter grey, heavier style of hound to above, although he
is carrying a little too much weight [ which rather spoilt his topline ] he was absolutely sound front and rear
and seemed extremely happy with his day out. Has good style.
Puppy Bitch: 3
1st: Bailey`s GREYFLAX MISS GRACE, Nearly one year old and looking forward to a promising future.
Absolutely super pup who was my winner as she entered the ring and when she eventually settled on the
move was unbeatable in this class. Oozes quality, substance and type, definitely the hound that I would have
taken home today and I will watch her future with interest and very happy to award her Best Puppy In Show.
2nd: Owen & Brodie`s FITZEN`S GUNHILD AT WOLFCASTLE [ IMP DEU ], 10 months light grey, what a
striking colour !. Another very pretty , slightly smaller pup who is less mature than above but very grown-up
on the move. Lovely type and interested to see that her sire is my Open Dog winner. Feminine head, good
neck into well laid shoulders. sound front and rear with excellent body, length and depth, in good hard
muscular condition. Nice front and hind co-ordination. Both pups well presented and handled.
3rd: Wilce-Quinton & Quinton`s KIROJAX THRILLING THISTLE
Junior Bitch: 3 [ 1 abs]
1st: Barter`s KILBOURNE JUSTINE, Nearly 13 months litter sister to my Best Dog. Dark brindle who won
this class easily, still sparsely coated and less mature than her brother she has a good length of neck into
well laid shoulders, sound front with good depth and forechest. Well ribbed back with good fallaway and tail
set. Nice hind angulation with sound easy movement.
2nd: Thom`s FLAXSIDE DAVA MISS CHIEF, 14 months smaller hound, feminine throughout , not
dissimilar in style to above but would like to see a little more fore-chest, adequate front and hind angulation.
Moved well.
Yearling Bitch: 4 [ 3 abs ]
1st: Stuart & Holt`s OLLANDSHEART MATILDA , Only 22 months but already has great maturity and good
presence in the ring. Tall. feminine, elegant hound, pretty head and dark eye, good ears and set. Excellent
overall conformation , balance and topline with good front and hind co-ordination, correct tail and set.
Sympathetically handled, excellent presentation. Unfortunately stood alone but definitely one for the future.
Special Beginners Bitch 5 [ 1 abs]
1st: Keane`s BEARDSWOOD XENIA 2 1/4 years litter sister to my Res Best Dog winner. Dark grey, tall
feminine youngster who has a pretty head and dark eye, excellent ears and set. Nicely constructed
throughout with excellent sound, easy true movement. I believe this was her first show and she really coped
with the conditions well and her handler did a very good job. Lovely side movement with good front reach
and drive behind.
2nd: Thom`s LOWLAND FAUNS IANTHE AT FLAXSIDE [ IMP GER ], Nearly 15 months, smaller but well
boned hound , preferred head of winner, well bodied with good fallaway and tail set. Has more hind-angulation than front angulation and stood rather wide in front today, preferred side movement than fore and
aft but has good drive behind. well handled.
3rd: McCarthy`s EHLARADAWN TURAS
Maiden Bitch : 3
1st: Help`s BEARDSWOOD XANTHE, 2 1/4 years, litter sister to previous class winner. Tall and feminine
throughout, lovely head and expression, well balanced hound with excellent outline and topline. She has a lot
to like about her , she is sound front and rear with good feet. Slow maturer who just needs to body up and fill
her frame. I like her style.
2nd : Cumberland & Constantine`s ZELDINI ANJU AT KALEGINY, Nearly 3 years old, lighter grey than
above, another slow maturer who needs to body up, she has a nice feminine head and dark eye, good front
and hind angulation with pleasing topline and overall balance. Very nice bitch just not the drive behind of
winner today.
3rd : Taylor`s PACKWAY STAR OF THE EAST,
Undergraduate Bitch: 4 [ 1 abs ]
1st : Merrick`s GREYHAWKS ROMANO LANI, 4 years dark grey, pretty feminine head and dark eye, close
decision between first 2 hounds, just preferred the front angulation of winner and she has slightly more
substance than her classmate. Both bitches moved well in the heat. Lani has a good topline which she
keeps well on the move, nicely handled. Preferred the overall style of 2nd but preferred the flowing angles of
the winner.
2nd : Keane`s BEARDSWOOD XENIA , as before.
3rd : Havercroft`s KILBOURNE LYRAE AT DRAGONSISLE
Post Graduate Bitch : 7 [ 1 abs ]
First 3 particularly nice bitches that were difficult to seperate.
1st : Lucas & Dargonne`s PACKWAY THE ENIGMA, Excellent 2 years old litter sister to my Limit Dog
winner. I love her pretty head ,dark eye and expression. Correct ears and set. One I have admired as a
youngster and she has matured well. Tall with excellent overall balance with good front and hind co-ordination. Correct feet, she stands over a lot of ground with nice topline and outline. Sound ,easy mover
although she was outmoved in the final challenge for Best Bitch she has great type and style.
2nd : Finnett & Heathcote`s ANTONIUS VERTRAGUS THE-MARA-RIVER WITH HYNDSIGHT [ IMP FRA
}, At 2 1/2 years she is more mature than winner and another close decision, slightly smaller hound than
above but has excellent type and quality. Lovely head , neck and forequarters, great length and topline. Good
hindangulation with excellent sweep from hip to hock, good feet. Slightly more body than winner but not as
smooth on the move today.
3rd : Edward`s KILBOURNE DEVON
Limit Bitch : 8 [ 4 abs ]
1st; Wilce-Quinton & Quinton`s KIROJAX PANCHO, Just 5 years mature hound, heavier style to 2nd she
has a lot of quality and presence, good length and depth with nice topline on the move , sound throughout
which won her the class, her handler got the best out her. Would like a little more front angulation, good feet
and presentation.
2nd: Lucas & Dargonne`s PACKWAY ECOTRAILER, 4 1/2 years well constructed hound, slightly preferred
her head and expression to above , she has excellent overall conformation with good length and topline. At
first glance she was my winner watching going around the ring with very nice side-movement ,she just let
herself down on the final run. Super presentation and handling.
3rd : Faircloth`s PENHERALD POLKA AT CALBRAIDH
Open Bitch: 10
Lovely class and an honour to judge.
1st: Bailey`s CH. GREYFLAX TALLULAH LILAC, 5 1/2 years top class bitch who oozes type and quality. I
have admired her since she was a puppy and was thrilled that she was shown today in great form and that I
was able to award her top honours. She is in her prime and she looks super standing and moving with such
style and presence with true and easy ,light movement which is so lovely to see in a big hound. An easy
overall winner for me today and I was delighted to see that BPIS was her excellent daughter who is hopefully
going to follow in her mums lovely footsteps. Best Bitch and Best In Show.
2nd : Peach`s KILBOURNE OPAL`S FIRE TO ABAYOMI , 3 1/2 years, less mature than winner but a top
quality , beautifully made bitch. Lovely head and expression, dark eye, great neck into nicely laid shoulders
with plenty of fore-chest, great depth with sound powerful front and correct feet. Well ribbed back with lovely
topline which was kept well on the move. Excellent hindquarters with good fallaway and tail set.So sound
front and rear. I really liked her style and type ,so unlucky to meet above but I am positive she has a great
future. Pleased to award her Res Best Bitch and Res. Best In Show over my Best Dog who although is from
the same kennel today he had to give way to the maturity and finish of the two older bitches.
3rd : Finnett & Heathcote`s CH. HYNDSIGHT ALL I HAVE TO DO IS
Veteran Bitch. 10 [3 abs ] Another top quality class with some grand old ladies.
1st : Help`s CH. BEARDSWOOD ULYSSA, 7 1/2 years litter sister to Veteran Dog winner. Another super
hound who has previously won a Hound Group under me and I was thrilled to see her still in top form and
condition. She is a lovely bitch who has all the essentials and still moving soundly and with style. Pleased to
see 3 of her progeny all winning good classes today all having inherited many of of her excellent qualities.
Best Veteran In Show.
2nd : Lucas & Dargonne`s PACKWAY LITTLE LOXLEY. 9 1/2 years, lovely dark grey bitch who has a lot of
style and has excellent type. I like her overall conformation, slightly outshone by the younger winner today .
Noticed that she has also been very dominant in passing on her excellent genes to many winners today.
3rd : Barrett`s STRANWITH FLORA.
