Deerhound Club Breed Show 2010 Critique

First of all I would like to say thank you for inviting me to judge your Open Single Breed Show in Cheltenham. What a excellent place for a dog show and we were both days so lucky with the weather.

My special thanks go to my ring stewards who looked so well after me and were such a great help.

I would like to thank all the exhibitors who showed so many dogs under me in perfect condition and very well presented.

I think the quality of your hounds was really high and it was great fun to judge these beautiful dogs. In some classes I could have changed my first dogs because the they were so close. The overall type was really good and most of the dogs had beautiful heads.

Of course there were some problems like we have them here as well.

Some big ears, many not perfectly folded but only a few light eyes. Pigment over all was quite good.

Unfortunately poor fronts and straight pasterms were quite common. Most of them had really good hindquarters.

The side movement was excellent in most of the dogs but coming and going you could see some close or cowhocks and weak hindquarters without the right drive from behind.

I was really pleased with my Best of Breed and BIS “CH. Gentom Peacemaker” and BB “Ch. Greyflax Guinevere” out of Veteran class in such a good condition. My two puppies “Kilbourne Brigadier” and “Ain´t Miss Behaving at Klbourne” (best puppy) I promise a very good future. They could win everywhere in the world.

Thank you for your hospitality. I had a great weekend.
